On May 22, 2026, the UNICOP General Assembly was held in Casablanca in a spirit of constructive exchange and collective mobilization around the major issues facing Morocco’s fish canning industry. The association’s key members were in attendance, demonstrating their commitment to an industry that is a source of pride for the Kingdom.

Discussions covered several strategic themes, including fisheries resources and their preservation, export competitiveness, customs matters, MSC certification, sector sustainability and decarbonization, industry communication, as well as the future outlook of the sector. The exchanges were rich and helped identify concrete action plans for the coming year.
The Statutory Auditor also approved the accounts for fiscal year 2025, and all proceedings took place under excellent conditions.

UNICOP General Assembly - Le Matin 1991

UNICOP’s founding General Assembly — Le Matin, July 23, 1991. At the podium, Mr. Mustapha Doghmi, the Union’s first president.

The Assembly was also an opportunity to recall that the association has existed since July 18, 1991, as shown in this archival photo. The Union was founded to unite Moroccan canneries. The objective was clear: to defend the interests of the profession, prepare the sector for international competition, and voice the concerns of industry players to public authorities.

More than three decades later, the discussions remain as engaging as they are essential for the future of the Moroccan industry. While the challenges have evolved — sustainability, decarbonization, certification — the determination to unite and move forward together remains intact. Proof, if any were needed, of the vitality and resilience of a sector that has never stopped reinventing itself.
